Just finished watching 21 Grams again and the movie blew me again specially the ending. Its the combinations of words, music, direction everything that gets to you.

So thought compiling a few ending scenes of movies that have left a mark on me. And as you can imagine, this blog post could be a big spoiler for you in case you have not seen the movies. So avoid pushing the play button on the movies you have not seen, you wouldn’t get the essence anyways. And if you have seen the movie, just relive the moments.

Milenge Milenge – A movie scheduled to be released sometime in 2007 and then got delayed and then got delayed again.. The movie will definitely look outdated.. Also this movie is inspired from Serendipity, so we are not gonna have a new story as well.. Satish Kaushik can be a good director at times and Shahid and Kareena will try and do their bit to get the movie through but personally am not pinning any hopes on this one..

I hate luv stories – Directed by Punit Malhotra who worked as an assistant to Johar and starring Sonam “Charming” Kapoor and Imran “Every girl loves me” Khan.. Hard to comment on this one since this is Punit’s first film.. But considering Sonam and Imran, this movie could turn out to be one time watch.. Also have good hope on the music of this one.. Vishal Shekhar are mostly good.

Lamhaa – High hopes on this one.. the reason – Rahul Dholakia.. A national award winner who made a brilliant movie Parzania.. Talking about Lamhaa, this is a social action thriller film based in Kashmir and should definitely be a worthy movie.

It’s my life – Directed by Anees Bazmee and starring Harman Baweja and Genelia Dsouza, with the story like this.. rich guy.. overprotective dad..falls for a middle class girl.. needs to come out of dad’s shell.. will be a waste of words writing anything more about it..

Once upon a time in Mumbai – Now here’s a movie with story of some substance.. A movie based on Mumbai underworld on the real life of Hazi Mastan, one of the first celebrity dons of India and his connections with Bollywood. But my concern Milan Luthria, a director with pretty bad credentials in movies like Hattrick and Taxi No 9 2 11. But I don’t know, have a gut feeling the movie will be an average one time watch..

Housefull – Akshay Kumar, Reteeeish Deshmukh and Arjun Rampal in a masala comedy movie directed by Sajid Khan.. sounds really scary.. have full faith that it will be partly nonsensical, with a lot of songs and melodrama in between, shitty fuckall stuff especially considering Sajid’s previous work..

Badmaash Company – First of all the name is not even impressive.. And directed by Parmeet Sethi(acted in DDLJ and husband of Archana PuriPagal Singh) and starring Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and some rookies.. have all hope the movie will be some crappy shit.

Bumm Bumm Bole – This movie is based on Children of Heaven(Iranian) by Majid Majidi. A brilliant movie indeed. It was nominated for the best foreign film by the Academy. Now this remake is directed by Priyadarshan who is by no way as talented as Majid, but still have hopes that this movie will turn out good for people who haven’t watched Children of Heaven. For me I will watch the Iranian original again.

Kites – Hrithik’s back after like ages and directed by Anurag Basu who did exceptional work in Life in a Metro but still looking at the plot of the movie where the hero fights all odds to get his love sounds really outdated. Also the movie has been delayed by quite a lot and the promos are also not impressive. The movie may do okay in the box office but will the movie be good? I dont think so..

Raajneeti – Political thriller directed by Prakash Jha based on the characters and situations of Mahabharat and acted by Ajay Devgn and Nana Patekar.. sounds really good.. think the movie must be great..

Raavan – A movie directed by Mani Ratnam, based on story of Ramayana, music by A R Rehman and cinematography by Santosh Sivan. The movie should be nothing short of brilliant.

Terrorism and Beyond…

Read somewhere today that the sex ratio of haryana as per 2001 budget is 861/1000. Now assuming it has gone up a bit in the past 9 years, there are still around 120 girls which are killed per 1861 children born in Haryana. And the sex ratio in most of the other states in India is not encouraging at all.. most of the states have a ratio of 900-950 girls per thousand boys that are born.. Putting it in a nutshell, hundreds of girls are killed in our country everyday just because they are girls. Terrorism and Naxalism are big problems which we are facing today, but looking at the number of deaths is it not a bigger problem and bigger crime that is happening everyday around us? Something that needs to be taken care of and fast. A death sentence for female foeticide maybe.

Review: Wake up Sid

When I entered the movie hall i had pretty much guessed what the story of the movie would be after watching the promos. Ranbir would be playing a rich guy who is pretty much laid back and does not care about the future. Then out of circumstances he’ll be forced to take charge of his life and will come trumps in the end with the help Konkana Sen Sharma. And I was right. The movie is as predictable as it could be. You can guess most of the times what’s gonna happen next. So what could be done when the story is not by your side. You could present the movie in a nice fresh format. You could extract the best out of the actors you’ve got. The music can help you out. The cinematography could be done nicely or you take care of minute details and Wake up Sid scores above par in all the other areas.

Yes there are similarities from “Dil Chahta Hai”, “Lakshya” and “Luck by Chance” but when you’re watching the movie that never really bothers you and it should not be a reason for penning the movie down.

The movie is not brilliant(not something of the level of Kaminey or Dev D) and has its share of flaws too. Like some of the scenes of Sid (Ranbir) and his mother (Supriya Pathak) are pretty unreal and slightly high on melondrama. And I could think of a couple of other instances of the same as well. Also cutting down the movie by 10 minutes would also not have done any harm to the movie.

But overall its an above par movie with great performances from Ranbir and Konkana Sen Sharma. The movie manages to connect well with the audience and its a feel good, a definite one time watch. Ayan Mukherjee’s first attempt at direction is pretty much fresh.

A testimonial for my first laptop :)

They say all good things have to come to an end and so it has finally happened. The LCD of my laptop is done and its time for me to get a new laptop. Its a computer which has seen and shared with me the better part of my past five years. Its a laptop which has seen every emotion I can possibly have and which always stood my me. It has let me see countless movies I have seen over these years. The endurance it has taken i feel could not be beared by any other laptop I believe, having survived two 3-feet falls. It was even totally soaked with water in the rain when I had to dry it in the sun for 2 days and guess what it started as if telling me that drying me in the sun for one day was enough. It was run for hours and hours before giving it a few hours break to get ready for the next stretch. I’ve spilled food and what not on it but it kept on running without any complaints. I did not have to get it serviced even once in the 5 years I used it(Well i know I should have had though). Those who know me know very well how careless I am with things and it was my laptop who endured everything. Hats off to you my boy. My past 5 years would not have been the same if it was not for you. Thank you for everything.

P.S. – For anyone reading it : The laptop model is IBM R51
