Terrorism and Beyond

Posted on: April 8, 2010

Read somewhere today that the sex ratio of Haryana as per 2001 budget is 861/1000. Now assuming it has gone up a bit in the past 9 years, there are still around 120 girls which are killed per 1861 children born in Haryana. And the sex ratio in most of the other states in India is not encouraging at all. Most of the states have a ratio of 900-950 girls per thousand boys that are born. Putting it in a nutshell, hundreds of girls are killed in our country everyday just because they are girls. Terrorism and Naxalism are big problems which we are facing today, but looking at the number of deaths is it not a bigger problem and bigger crime that is happening everyday around us? Something that needs to be taken care of and fast. A death sentence for female foeticide maybe.
