Archive for the ‘Movies’ Category

So just thought I will do my picks in the top categories from the Academy Awards nominations before the Ceremony.

Best Film:

Nominees:

My Pick: The Artist – Thomas Langmann

-Very closely followed by ‘The Tree of Life’.

Best Director:

The Nominees:

My Pick: Terrence Malick – The Tree of Life

-For directing a film no one else could.

Best Actor:

Nominees:

My Pick:  Jean Dujardin – The Artist

-For doing an extremely difficult role perfectly.

Best Actress:

My Pick:  Glenn Close – Albert Nobbs

-Really tough to pick one. Also Tilda Swinton for ‘We need to talk about Kevin’ should have been there among the nominees.

Best Supporting Actor:

My Pick: Christopher Plummer – Beginners

– Also I think Beginners should have been in the Best Film category.

Best Supporting Actress:

My Pick: Octavia Spencer – The Help

Best Writing – Original Screenplay:

Nominees:

My Pick: A Seperation – Asghar Farhadi

Best Cinematography:

Nominees:

My Pick: The Tree of Life – Emmanuel Lubezki

Not picking up the movie for Best Adapted Screenplay as I haven’t read any of the books. Also not picking up the best animated and Best Foreign Language films as I have not seen all the movies in these categories.

Knowing the Academy over the past few years, some of the picks I made I know are not going to win while some of them are. Ex- Christopher Plummer and Octavia Spencer are going to win for all the money and Terence Malick and Glenn Close are not. But this is not about that. I’ve picked the movies from a ‘should’ perspective rather than a ‘will’  perspective.

Just finished watching 21 Grams again and the movie blew me again specially the ending. Its the combinations of words, music, direction everything that gets to you.

So thought compiling a few ending scenes of movies that have left a mark on me. And as you can imagine, this blog post could  be a big spoiler for you in case you have not seen the movies. So avoid pushing the play button on the movies you have not seen, you wouldn’t get the essence anyways. And if you have seen the movie, just relive the moments.

And yeah a few videos below do not allow embedding so just click the youtube link and watch it there.

1. 21 Grams

2. American Beauty

3. Cinema Paradiso

4. Trainspotting

The ending of the movie is just as awesome as the start!

5. Un Prophete

6. Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi

7. Fight Club

P.S.: This is an absolute random list. Another day it really could have been an entire different set.
